Cardamom Chai Latte (Printable)

A soothing blend of cardamom and cinnamon infused tea combined with creamy milk for cozy moments.

# What You’ll Need:

→ Spiced Tea Concentrate

01 - 2 cups water
02 - 2 black tea bags, preferably Assam or Darjeeling
03 - 4 green cardamom pods, lightly crushed
04 - 1 cinnamon stick
05 - 4 whole cloves
06 - 4 black peppercorns
07 - 1 inch piece fresh ginger, thinly sliced
08 - 2 tablespoons honey or sugar

→ Milk

09 - 1.5 cups whole milk or plant-based milk alternative

# Directions:

01 - Bring 2 cups of water to a boil in a small saucepan. Add cardamom pods, cinnamon stick, cloves, peppercorns, and ginger slices. Reduce heat and simmer for 5 minutes to extract spice flavors.
02 - Add tea bags to the simmering spice mixture and continue simmering for an additional 3 minutes until the tea steeps fully.
03 - Remove from heat and pour the tea mixture through a fine mesh strainer into a heatproof pitcher. Discard all solids. Stir in honey or sugar until completely dissolved.
04 - In a separate saucepan, heat milk until steaming but not boiling. For a creamier texture, optionally froth the milk using a whisk or milk frother.
05 - Divide spiced tea concentrate equally between two mugs. Top each with hot milk and stir gently to combine. Garnish with a pinch of ground cinnamon or cardamom if desired. Serve immediately.

# Expert Tips:

01 -
  • It tastes like a cozy hug but takes only twenty minutes, which feels like cheating when you're craving something sophisticated.
  • You control the sweetness and spice levels, so it adapts to your mood instead of the other way around.
  • The whole apartment smells incredible while it's brewing, and your guests will think you've done something fancy.
02 -
  • Never boil the milk—it breaks the protein structure and tastes burned even if it doesn't look burned, which I learned the hard way on my third attempt.
  • Crushing the cardamom pods yourself makes an enormous difference in freshness compared to buying pre-crushed, and your hands will smell amazing for hours afterward.
03 -
  • Make a double batch of the spiced concentrate and keep it in the fridge for three days—you can have chai ready in five minutes by just reheating the concentrate and steaming fresh milk, which is dangerous for your caffeine intake but wonderful for your mental health.
  • If someone claims they don't like cardamom, make them this anyway but reduce the cardamom by half and increase the ginger—I've converted three cardamom skeptics this way and they never saw it coming.
