Viral Yogurt Toast Delight (Printable)

A creamy yogurt custard bakes inside thick bread, topped with fresh berries and bananas.

# What You’ll Need:

→ Bread

01 - 4 slices thick-cut brioche or challah bread

→ Yogurt Custard

02 - 2/3 cup plain or vanilla Greek yogurt
03 - 1 large egg
04 - 2 tablespoons honey or maple syrup
05 - 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

→ Fruit Topping

06 - 1/2 cup sliced strawberries
07 - 1/2 cup blueberries
08 - 1/2 banana, sliced

→ Optional Garnishes

09 - Powdered sugar for dusting
10 - 2 teaspoons chopped pistachios or almonds

# Directions:

01 - Set oven to 375°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
02 - Place the bread slices evenly on the prepared baking sheet.
03 - Press the center of each bread slice with the back of a spoon to form a shallow well without piercing through the edges.
04 - In a mixing bowl, whisk together Greek yogurt, egg, honey or maple syrup, and vanilla extract until the mixture is smooth and creamy.
05 - Spoon the yogurt custard evenly into the wells of each bread slice.
06 - Top each filled bread slice with sliced strawberries, blueberries, and banana.
07 - Bake in the preheated oven for 12 to 15 minutes until the custard is just set and the bread edges turn golden brown.
08 - Allow to cool slightly; dust with powdered sugar and sprinkle chopped nuts if desired. Serve warm.

# Expert Tips:

01 -
  • It's the rare breakfast that feels indulgent without requiring any culinary training.
  • The baked yogurt custard gets creamy and slightly caramelized at the edges, tasting richer than it has any right to.
  • You can use whatever fruit is sitting in your fridge, so it works year-round.
02 -
  • Don't overbake it trying to get the custard completely firm—a slight wobble in the center means it'll set as it cools and stay creamy rather than becoming rubbery.
  • The bread will continue to brown after you pull it out, so pulling it out when the edges are just turning golden prevents a burnt bottom.
03 -
  • Using a spoon to create the well is more forgiving than a knife, and you're less likely to accidentally tear the bread.
  • If you're making this for guests, you can prep the custard mixture the night before and assemble everything in the morning—it only takes five minutes.
